BTEC in Music Performance
The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Music Performance is equivalent to an A-level, studied over two years. Learners will work individually and within ensembles to develop their instrumental or vocal skills and techniques. Students will also examine music notation and theory, develop an excellent understanding of the music industry, and explore their own personal interests in their optional unit.
Units
Practical music theory and harmony (25% - coursework marked internally)
Professional practise in the music industry (25% - written exam marked externally)
Ensemble music performance (33% - assessed performance and activities marked externally)
One optional unit (17%) - Composing music, Music performance session styles, Solo performance OR Improvising music (marked internally)
Entry Requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9, including English and maths.
You do not need to have studied music in KS4, however a good level of performance skill is essential.

Transition to KS5
All Year 11 students will be automatically added to our ‘Transition to KS5’ team once their GCSEs are completed. Students can check out the transition materials for as many of our subjects as they like.
