Media Studies
A-level
Now more than ever Media Studies is a relevant and important subject – it is estimated that the entertainment and media sector will be worth £76 billion in 2021 – with the video games sector currently valued at more than half of the UK’s whole entertainment industry.
A-Level Media Studies is designed to allow students to develop their analysis skills across a wide and varied range of media products from a wide range of different media sectors including television, online and social media, advertising and marketing, film marketing, music videos and video games.
You will be taught how to analyse how media products use language and representations to create meaning for the audience – all whilst considering how different members of the audience might respond to different products based on their own beliefs, history and cultural background. You will also be taught how to investigate and consider how the industry affects how these media products are made – all while applying critical perspectives of world-renowned media theorists.
You will also have the opportunity to create a media product based upon 1 of 8 briefs which cover the following media forms: magazine, television, music marketing and film marketing.
Please note that 18 rated content may form part of the material studied for this course.
