A-level

The course comprises of three key modules:

  • Physical chemistry: including atomic structure; bonding; energetics; kinetics.

  • Inorganic chemistry: including periodicity; transition metals; halogens; alkaline earth metals.

  • Organic chemistry: Alkanes; polymers; halogenoalkanes; alcohols; DNA, proteins and acids; aromatic chemistry.

Required practical’s will be conducted and reported on throughout the two years, resulting in a pass or fail at the end of the course.

    • Paper 1: (Inorganic and Physical Chemistry) Written exam - 2 hours 35% of A level

    • Paper 2: (Organic and Physical Chemistry) Written exam - 2 hours 35% of A level

    • Paper 3: Written exam - 2 hours 30% of A level

  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9, including a minimum of grade 5 in English and maths and at least a grade 6 at GCSE in combined science or a grade 6 in chemistry and either biology or physics for triple scientists.
